Bustle just released a video featuring body-positive activist Marie Southard Ospina, introducing the basics of body love and breaking down common misconceptions about the movement. The video begins with interviewer Anna Parsons asking passersby about what they think is “healthy” and what counts as “plus-size.” Then, Southard Ospina explains the basics of the body positive movement. Parsons asks people which celebrities they think has a “really great body.” Their responses? Jennifer Aniston, Jessica Alba, and Jennifer Lawrence. But part of the body-positive movement is pushing to see more “fat bodies, queer bodies, bodies of color, and everything in-between–upfront and center in mainstream media.” After all, the average American woman is a size 14–but the average plus-size model is a size 8. Next, Southard Ospina tackles the myth that you can tell how healthy someone is just by looking at their size. The video also explores whether it’s OK to call someone fat, What the opposite of plus-size is, And more. Bravo, Bustle! Watch the full video below.
